BNYX is on a different rhythm

The multiplatinum producer has Yeat, Drake, Travis Scott and everyone in between hopping on beats that don’t quite fit anywhere.

It’s a hot Los Angeles afternoon, and the sunlight is spilling into the room through a row of big windows. BNYX (pronounced “Benny X”) doesn’t do much the way everyone else does, starting with a studio where you can actually tell what time of day it is. There was a version of him, some years ago, who made every song after dark, running on two hours of sleep and whatever energy he could still find. "It was bad," he says all sunk into a bulbous grey sofa. "It didn’t do good on my body. I was eating late, I was gaining heavy weight. I was always tired. Always missing dinner time with the family." Somewhere along the way, he rearranged the whole thing and turned into the sort of dad who makes it home. And here he is, in the studio on this hot Los Angeles afternoon, with the sunlight spilling through those big windows.

BNYX, born Benjamin Saint Fort, is someone with Zara-bought clothes and a warm nonchalance, whose groundedness contrasts with the absurdity of his catalogue. The most banal thing one could write is that meeting Yeat changed his life—only it’s exactly that. Five years or so ago, one DM turned into another, then another and another, until BNYX and Yeat found themselves in a studio together.
